Design updates on the 2025 Taos focus on giving the vehicle a more cohesive and expressive personality. The front fascia has been revised with sharper detailing, including a reworked grille pattern and more angular bumper design. LED projector-style headlights are now included across all models, enhancing both nighttime visibility and the vehicle's road presence. Higher-end trims benefit from a light strip integrated into the grille, creating a signature look that ties the Taos into the broader Volkswagen SUV family.
The rear of the vehicle has also been reworked with new connected taillight elements and a distinctive illuminated VW badge--an upscale touch rarely seen in this category. A broader selection of exterior paint colours expands customization options, with eye-catching hues such as Monterey Blue Pearl and Serrano Green Metallic joining the lineup. Wheel designs have been refreshed as well, now ranging from 17 to 19 inches depending on trim, adding to the visual appeal while complementing the Taos' compact but confident stance.
Inside the cabin, the 2025 Taos benefits from a more refined layout and better material selection throughout. The redesigned dashboard takes on a sleeker appearance, anchored by a centrally mounted 8-inch touchscreen that now floats above the centre stack. The updated display is easier to use and better integrated with the surrounding dashboard elements, while climate controls have been simplified for quicker operation. Dual-zone automatic climate control is now standard, allowing front passengers to set individualized temperature zones.
Upholstery and surface materials vary by model, with practical fabric in the Trendline, soft-touch MicroCloud leatherette in the Comfortline, and premium leather seating offered on the Highline. A standout feature of the Black Edition is its sport-oriented interior package, which includes a black roof liner and customizable ambient lighting. Meanwhile, the Highline trim introduces a new "Blue Night" leather seating colour, delivering a bold contrast to the cabin's neutral tones. Acoustic insulation has also been improved, further elevating the in-cabin experience on long drives or during commutes.
The revised 1.5-litre turbocharged engine in the 2025 Taos brings a noticeable boost in energy over the outgoing model. Engineers have increased output from 158 to 174 horsepower by refining key engine components, including the injection system and intercooler. A gasoline particulate filter has also been added, ensuring compliance with the latest emissions standards without compromising performance. The result is a more flexible powerband that makes highway passing and hill climbs more confident.
Volkswagen has also responded to previous feedback by swapping out the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for a smoother 8-speed automatic gearbox. Paired exclusively with 4MOTION all-wheel drive on most trims, this transmission delivers more linear power delivery and improved drivability in stop-and-go traffic. Fuel economy remains competitive, with estimates of 8.3 L/100 km in city driving and just 6.4 L/100 km on the highway, giving the Taos one of the best consumption profiles among AWD-equipped compact utility vehicles.
One of the most noticeable leaps forward in the 2025 Taos is its improved integration of digital features. The infotainment system has been updated for quicker response times and now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across the board. From the Comfortline trim upward, the vehicle includes wireless charging and additional USB-C ports for easier device connectivity. Volkswagen's 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster--Digital Cockpit Pro--is available on upper trims and allows full customization of the driving display, including navigation prompts and safety alerts.
Safety equipment has also been upgraded, with Volkswagen's full suite of IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance technologies available depending on trim. This includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning with autonomous braking, and Emergency Assist. Opting for the Trendline 4MOTION, at $34,585, adds all-wheel drive and upgraded wheels. The Comfortline 4MOTION (from $38,085) includes a power-adjustable driver's seat, Park Distance Control, and wireless smartphone integration. The Comfortline Black Edition 4MOTION, priced at $39,785, includes visual upgrades like 19-inch alloy wheels, a black roof, and ambient interior lighting. At the top, the Highline 4MOTION, from $41,785, includes leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, and premium driver assistance features.
